ABOUT FLAG BOXING
JILL MORLEY
WRITER | DIRECTOR | NATIONAL GOLDEN GLOVES CHAMPION
Fight Like a Girl Boxing is designed to build self-esteem and physical fitness through learning the basic techniques of boxing while bonding with others; building strength, cardio and strategic thinking. They are also encouraged to vent their frustrations in a healthy, safe environment.
Coach Jill Morley is a Masters National Golden Gloves Champion and director of the award winning film, “Fight Like a Girl.” After an amateur career of 12 fights (9 and 3), she started teaching young girls how to box in 2009. By working with the non-profit, Knockouts for Girls, volunteering at the Boys and Girls clubs in Venice and Santa Monica, as well as the Mar Vista Family Center, she has developed a positive fitness program for girls that inspires confidence, community, fitness, and most of all fun! Traveling to different schools and organizations with her bag of boxing gloves and mitts, Jill aspires to make a difference.
“I originally started FLAG boxing because it was difficult for women who wanted to fight to find a trainer who would really take the time to work with them, be patient and teach them technique. I expanded to people who wanted to get into good shape or needed a physical outlet for their emotions. They found benefits in other ways. When I started training women (in particular), I learned that it helped them in their everyday lives. One client used to have nightmares that she was being attacked at night. She said once she learned to fight, the nightmares went away. FLAG boxing has over time, become a supportive community of women who train together, hang out together and encourage each other to keep going towards their respective dreams.
